We promote preventive rather than curative medicine in our medical contacts with the communities. We want to find more ways to equip the Hondurans whenever possible, rather than being the primary providers of short-term care.
Teams go to Honduras to serve, but also to learn from Hondurans. Each time we go into a community we provide education. The communities learn from the HNH Staff about the importance of hand washing, preventing intestinal parasites, fortifying food with micronutrients, or other important topics.
Throughout the year, HNH also holds community leader trainings. In each community that HNH visits, a leader (or sometimes several) is committed to seeing the health of their community improve. These leaders attend periodic trainings to learn more about important topics like identifying malnutrition, providing micronutrients & vitamin A, and filtering water.
